The Top SSD Hosting Services - Find the Best for You

You may have already heard of solid-state drives (SSD). The technology became a standard for desktop and laptop computers in the last decade, with server data centers quickly adopting the trend.

Today, you can find a plethora of providers offering SSD hosting for optimized website performance.

But did you know the technology behind solid-state drives is not at all new?

Fujio Masuoka, an engineer at Toshiba, first came up with the basis of this storage method back in the late 70s. In the mid-90s, the tech became indispensable to the military and industrial markets.

But it wasn’t until 2008-2009 that SSDs finally reached the commercial market and the hosting industry was one of the first to take advantage.

Our goal today is to find the best hosting providers with solid-state drives, and see which can elevate our website to the next level.

But first things first.

How We Ranked the Best SSD Hosts

Picking your new SSD host should be relatively easy. Just ensure you get enough space and check if your web building software is supported, right?

Wrong!

There is much more to the reliable SSD provider that meets the eye.

Consider the following:

  • Feature studies

When it comes to features, many clients look for options based on their current requirements. Sure, that’s an indispensable part of the process, but what about your future needs?

The best SSD companies know how unique each customer is, so they try to be as adaptable as possible.

SSL certificates, backup solutions, domain names, dedicated IPs — you better be aware of all the expected extra fees before you jump into a long-term deal.

  • Performance tests

Here is one thing web hosting clients rarely consider.

I mean, why should they?

The provider has service-level agreements and uptime guarantees for that.

The thing is, hosts don’t always live up to their promises, and clients are paying the price.

To save you the headaches, I ran SSD speed and uptime checks on test accounts in 30+ hosts using third-party tools like GTMetrix, Pingdom, WebPageTest, and StatusCake.

  • Support contact

The level of assistance is another often-overlooked factor. After all, theoretically, if your SSD host is as good as it claims, you would never need to call for help.

Fact of the matter is, sooner or later, you will need that extra assistance. And when the time comes — you’ll want to know the support team is up to the challenge.

I had several chats with each host covering basic and more complex questions to determine which one can treat you best.

  • Online review analysis

Just because you hold the top spot in many hosting rankings doesn’t necessarily mean you are one of the best. On the contrary, the industry feeds on affiliate links, so the most touted SSD companies are often merely the richest.

Customer testimonials can also be biased, but at least there is a ton of them. Reading through enough reviews, I was able to pinpoint the typical pros and cons clients find in a particular host.

  • ToS audit

This one is often a doozie. As much as I encourage people doing preliminary research on their potential host candidates, reading through the long and tedious Terms of Service is an understandably painstaking task.

Luckily, I dug through hundreds of pages full of mindless corporate mumbo-jumbo. Some hosts go to great extents to hide sneaky clauses in their Terms, so I’ve made it my mission to make sure they don’t remain unnoticed.

Ok, time to get down to the nitty-gritty.

I have selected a list of hosting companies that understand SSD technology very well and utilize it properly on all web hosting solutions.

One of the bright stars on the hosting horizon for years, SiteGround is an epitome of reliable services and stellar support.

The company is an official partner of the WordPress project and an active participant in conferences and WordCamps around the world.

Today SiteGround hosts over 2,000,000 domain names in five locations across the globe.

Much praise has been going around for SG, and it’s time to see if it is well-deserved.

SiteGround Features

SiteGround does not shy away when it comes to packing its SSD shared hosting plans with features.

You have three plans which cover different stages of your business venture:

  • StartUp — for startups and SMBs
  • GrowBig — for growing and ecommerce businesses
  • GoGeek — for high-traffic websites with more custom needs

Even the entry-level plan can put many competitors to shame. You can enjoy a great bundle of free extra services — daily backups, SSL certificates, CDN.

While the SSD storage comes with a limit on all packages, it still gives enough room for your website to thrive.

A few more things.

WordPress Services

SiteGround and WordPress go together like peanut butter and jelly. The hosting provider has been working closely with the CMS for over a decade and even develops its own solutions for speed and security optimization.

As part of its services, you’ll have WordPress preinstalled, a staging area for tests, core and plugin updates. WP-CLI and SSH are also part of the SSD hosting packages.

Advanced Spam Filtering

Unsolicited messages make up more than half of all email communications, accounting for billions of emails every day. This is not only annoying but can also be very harmful to your online data.

SiteGround partners up with SpamExperts to tackle unsolicited messages. The advanced platform identifies and blocks over 99.9% of all known spam before it even reaches your web server. The machine learning AI ensures the system gets even more effective in the future.

Choosing one of the more expensive SSD Linux hosting deals, you can unlock a lot of additional performance and development options.

SiteGround Support

One of the pillars of the expanding SiteGround empire is the impeccable support. In an industry where live assistance often takes a back seat, SG quickly stood out as something different.

Well-trained staff ready to address your specific needs?

While being fast and polite?

Turns out that it is possible, and it’s exactly what you should aim for as hosting clients.

The live chat, phone, and ticketing are indeed 24/7, as tested numerous times at night and on weekends.

The best thing about the live operators is, even the first-line of support can help with both sales and basic technical questions. If the issue is outside their scope of expertise — they just escalate it to the supervisor on shift.

Straightforward, fast, efficient — that’s the SiteGround SSD hosting support for you.

SiteGround User Reviews

  • Trustpilot score — 94% excellent ratings (3,024 reviews)
  • WebHostingGeeks score — 4.61/5 (1,172 reviews)
  • WhoIsHostingThis score — 5/5 (2,631 reviews)

Gathering some positive reviews here and there is quite easy, even if your services are nothing special. There are a ton of paid services that will spread fake testimonials.

That is certainly not the case with SiteGround.

In fact, it’s one of the very few companies that hold nearly perfect scores on all reputable review websites.

The only thing that pops up as a critique here and there is the company’s renewal policy. That approach to pricing, to be fair, is not unusual for the industry, but SG still makes sure it’s clearly described on the site and checkout process.

Our Verdict

SiteGround is deservedly among the top SSD companies in many online reviews and articles. The provider has a lot of experience hosting businesses of every size and easily adapts to more complex projects. Extremely well-versed in WordPress and WP-related optimizations.

Here is one SSD provider that didn’t need a lot of time to rise in the hosting ranks.

FastComet was founded in 2013 by a team of seasoned professionals. In just a few years, it managed to expand its client base to 50,000 happy campers.

Clients can enjoy optimized site speed and performance thanks to FastComet’s wide choice of server locations. You have:

  • North America (Chicago, Dallas, Newark, Toronto)
  • Europe (London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt)
  • Asia (Singapore, Tokyo, Mumbai)

Keeping your website close to your target audience can only benefit its performance and, subsequently — your user satisfaction.

FastComet Features

FastComet gives its shared clients a fair choice of three reasonably-priced SSD plans.

As with SiteGround, the main distinction is the size and needs of the potential client.

Let’s say you choose the best affordable shared SSD hosting deal – 15GB storage, about 25,000 unique visits per month, free SSL, and no-cost site/domain transfer.

Not bad for an entry-level package.

Isolated Resources

Sharing your server space with many other clients comes with its performance and security risks. If you have a neighbor hogging all the resources or leaving their website vulnerable for cyber attacks, this could only mean bad news for you.

FastComet ensures next-level resource isolation. Each client gets their own fair share of CPU, RAM, and server space, dedicated to their needs alone. No risks of breaches from the outside.

BitNinja Security

When it comes to securing your website, you can never be too prepared.

FastComet equips you with BitNinja – the all-in-one tool for Linux server security. Compatible with all cPanel and Plesk instances, the platform includes anti-spam filters, virus and malware prevention, brute force attack protection.

Moving up, things get even sweeter.

The FastCloud Plus SSD web hosting plan lets you host unlimited websites while adding free private SSLs and private DNS services in the mix.

The Extra deals are a developer’s paradise, with advanced caching and speed optimization options like Varnish, Memcached, OPcache, and more.

FastComet Support

You will quickly notice the one thing all top SSD providers have in common — their tremendous level of customer care.

Any reliable host should have enough patience and knowledge to walk you through the first steps and make you feel comfortable building your own website.

You can tell the FastComet operators know their stuff.

Time and time again, I’ve tested the live chat with sales and tech queries for this SSD hosting review, and I’ve always gotten more than satisfactory results.

Alongside the messenger, you have a full set of communication channels that are available 24/7 — phone, email, tickets, online form.

Would recommend this support in a heartbeat.

FastComet User Reviews

  • Trustpilot score — 92% excellent ratings (721 reviews)
  • WebHostingGeeks score — 4.75/5 (53 reviews)
  • WhoIsHostingThis score — 4.5/5 (37 reviews)

Another host with flattering client testimonials, FastComet deserves all the praises coming its way.

Review websites show high scores for FC, and for a good reason too.

The most impressive thing is, the provider keeps a close eye on negative reviews as well. FastComet is always quick to give disgruntled clients a polite and detailed reply, even when the user is clearly at fault.

Good SSD companies do that, you know.

Our Verdict

FastComet is a premium provider of SSD-powered shared plans with a strong focus on customer support. Suitable for businesses of every size, the company provides a wide variety of tools and services to build and host a successful website. There are frequent discounts for new customers.

Here is one provider that is not short on experience.

InMotion Hosting started operating in 1999 and today still ranks among the top 20 hosting providers in the US.

Founded by two guys with a common background in tech, Todd Robinson and Sunil Saxena, the company had two clear goals — creating a stable platform and pairing it with unbelievable customer service.

InMotion stores its servers in two owned data center facilities in Los Angeles and Ashburn. Since 2010, it has been making commendable efforts to reduce the carbon footprint and provide green-friendly solutions.

InMotion Features

The InMotion SSD web hosting plans are well-balanced and include a bunch of great free extras.

The Launch plan carries along over $170 in bonuses in the form of free website migration, advertising credits, and domain registration.

The good news is you can host two websites on this plan, which is one more than what most hosts allow on their cheapest plans.

The bad news is, even as a new client, the monthly rate is on the high side — valued at $6.39/mo, the Launch plan is far from being the most affordable.

Same goes with the Pro and Power plans — they look alright, but are they really that cost-effective?

Still, you have to give credit where credit is due.

Security Suite

Realizing the importance of high-level security, InMotion offers a great bundle of solutions for server and website protection. You have:

  • Free SSL certificate
  • Advanced DDoS protection
  • Virus and malware protection
  • Automatic backups

It’s a well-rounded platform with all essentials to secure your SSD web hosting.

Marketing Tools

Promoting your content is also in focus with InMotion. Apart from the lightning-fast email services, which you can use to blast successful email campaigns, there are also the ad credits. They are available for Google and Bing and help you reach a wider audience with your great content.

InMotion Support

Finding the right person to help in times of need is a breeze with InMotion.

The Contact Us page on the company website gives tons of useful information on how to reach a person to help you with technical issues, billing queries, web design requests, the whole enchilada.

I tried the live chat a couple of times and ended up with a guy named Albert.

Albert had a great attitude — polite, resourceful, not too pushy.

Sure, at times we were at a stalemate where we couldn’t agree on the wording and scope of some of the services, like the so-called automatic daily backups (which, as it turns out, was a paid feature).

But overall — a delightful experience.

InMotion User Reviews

  • Trustpilot score — 66% excellent ratings (167 reviews)
  • WebHostingGeeks score — 4.52/5 (1,475 reviews)
  • WhoIsHostingThis score — 4/5 (628 reviews)

The InMotion SSD reviews have been controversial, but recent ones were mainly negative.

That’s never a good sign.

Long-time clients report more outages, a decline in support assistance, and shady practices (like the supposedly free backup solution I mentioned).

To add salt to the wound, InMotion doesn’t seem to be active in the review websites and never responds to the adverse claims.

Hopefully, this can only serve as a push for improvement.

Our Verdict

Built to last, InMotion is a solid choice for SSD hosting. The platform is particularly useful for US-based businesses with a target audience in North America. InMotion benefits from a rich feature set, but the prices could be more reasonable.

Looking for a fast and reliable provider that can fit every budget?

Well, look no further!

Hostinger dominates the niche for affordable hosting solutions, amassing over 29 million clients in 178 countries.

The Lithuania-based company operates on a global scale through four main subsidiaries and many other small ones.

  • 000webhost — free hosting service provider
  • Hosting24 — affordable premium solutions
  • Niagahoster — Indonesian hosting company
  • Weblink — Brazil-based host

Hostinger has gone a long way since its inception in 2004, but is it the right service for you?

Hostinger Features

Right from the get-go, Hostinger’s shared SSD plans might strike you as a little too cheap. Suspiciously cheap even.

We are talking about prices starting from $0.99/mo.

Sure, you don’t get a million features by choosing Hostinger’s cheap SSD hosting. But considering the price tag — you are still getting heaps.

A comprehensive site builder, a one-click installer for over 400 apps, SSH access – and all this in a WordPress-optimized environment.

The entry-level plan is limited to a single mailbox, two parked, and two subdomains. That’s not enough to run and grow a business, but more than sufficient for a small personal project.

The most expensive deal (if you call $3.99/mo expensive) maxes your resource allocation and gives you the ability to host unlimited websites.

You wouldn’t expect much in terms of server performance from a cheap host, but Hostinger is always ready to wow you.

The Lithuanian host held some of the highest scores in my speed tests, and its uptime remains impeccable at 100% (~3 months monitoring).

And that’s not all.

LSCache Enabled

LSCache is an acceleration plugin for supercharging servers and client websites. Hostinger utilizes the LiteSpeed solution to efficiently deal with traffic spikes and significantly reduce page load times.

Github Integrations

GitHub is the biggest online repository for developer-oriented tools. Professional coders from all over the world are sharing their creations, building apps, optimizing their workflows. In that matter, Hostinger fully supports GitHub integrations, letting you customize all aspects of your website.

Hostinger Support

Ok, so Hostinger offers fast SSD hosting with enough features to get your project flying. The catch must be somewhere else.

Maybe the support is below-par or non-existent?

Not according to my experience.

The guys in the chat were actually pretty fast and helpful, which wouldn’t be so shocking with any decent regular host. But again, we’re talking about less than $1/mo here!

The most I’ve gotten from hosts in the same price range were inadequate responses and links to some useless tutorials.

Still, the chat doesn’t seem to be 24/7, as it redirected me straight to email correspondence a couple of times.

That being said, ticketing is available for technical assistance as well.

Hostinger User Reviews

  • Trustpilot score — 90% excellent ratings (1,238 reviews)
  • WebHostingGeeks score — 4.5/5 (65 reviews)
  • WhoIsHostingThis score — 4.5/5 (36 reviews)

Online reviews of Hostinger are mostly flattering — the company seems to deliver on its promises. The combination of well-maintained services and amazingly low monthly fees certainly leaves a lot of people drooling.

The few bad reviews mention that Hostinger used to offer even sweeter deals, but I don’t think the current list is much of a downgrade. It’s more like an adjustment of the fair usage policies to maintain excellent server performance.

Our Verdict

“Speed meets affordability” is the best way to describe Hostinger. Millions of customers worldwide trust this provider. It’s one of the best SSD hosting companies in terms of speed and ease-of-use.

cPanel, Pleask, and others

MochaHost has been in the business of hosting services since 2002.

The green-friendly provider was founded in San Jose, CA, and utilizes the services of a SAS 70 Type II certified data center facility in Chicago, IL.

Both Windows and Linux users can enjoy MochaHost’s services and test them risk-free, thanks to the company’s extended 180-days money-back guarantee.

MochaHost Features

Shared hosting clients can choose between three shared plans, available with both cPanel or ASP.net environment.

For just $1.95/mo, you can host a single website and benefit from unlimited SSD hosting space and traffic, email services, and a free SSL certificate for life.

As if that’s not enough, you get a bunch more interesting features.

Proprietary Security Tools

MochaHost is another provider that bets on its own in-house tools when it comes to web server security.

Mocha Load Protection aims to optimize site performance in times of high CPU and traffic load. Comes with real-time monitoring and malware protection.

The Never Reboot Protection is another unique tool, eliminating service downtimes during maintenance, OS kernel updates, software installation, and more.

Lifetime Price Discount

Many hosts lure new customers with amazing introductory discounts, hoping to cash in on a much steeper renewal. More often than not, that involves shady tactics and hiding things in the fine print.

MochaHost doesn’t need any of that – the initial discount you get is “locked” for your entire hosting experience, allowing more control over your long-term budgeting.

MochaHost might be a cheap SSD hosting provider, but that never affected its focus on performance. The company offers proprietary load and reboot protection optimizations with every plan.

Any boost to website speed is always welcome in my book.

MochaHost Support

I was pleasantly surprised by the MochaHost support assistants.

Both times they seemed eager to help me and try to understand what I need instead of offering the first thing that comes to mind. Their responses were fast, which means they didn’t need to spend time digging around for information.

Apart from the chat, you have a phone line…with a little twist. You won’t be able to contact live operators, but you can leave your number and get a callback.

MochaHost User Reviews

  • Trustpilot score — 83% excellent ratings (1,016 reviews)
  • WebHostingGeeks score — 2.94/5 (50 reviews)
  • WhoIsHostingThis score — 2.5/5 (61 reviews)

Despite the majority of positive reviews, there are a few alarming signs that MochaHost might not be the best affordable SSD provider it appeared at first sight.

You don’t have to dig deep in the negative stories to reveal a looming problem — downtimes. Many clients report server outages – and not just on shared plans, but on VPS and dedicated machines as well.

Some users even accuse the provider of reporting and deleting negative reviews.

As MochaHost doesn’t seem present in most review websites, we can only wonder what the company thinks about this matter.

Our Verdict

MochaHost is a long-time provider and worthy mention in our SSD comparison list. The company is well-versed with technology and impresses with on-point support assistants. Mocha has some unique feature offerings, which makes them a dependable partner for a long-term business commitment.

Here is one host that’s managed to remain independently-owned since 2001.

A2 Hosting started as a hobby business of system administrator Bryan Muthig. The name A2 comes from Ann Arbor, MI, Bryan’s hometown.

The company gradually expanded its services by adding managed and unmanaged VPS, WordPress hosting, Windows servers, and SSD hosting in the last few years.

A2 Hosting Features

A2 Hosting powers all client websites from its four worldwide locations — Michigan, Arizona, Amsterdam, and Singapore.

Depending on your resource consumption and needs, there are three shared plans to choose from.

They all come with no cap on the SSD storage space and monthly transfer.

Some of the built-in features will leave you drooling — site staging environment, SSL certificate, Cloudflare CDN.

And there’s more:

Turbo Servers

А2 aims to provide one of the fastest SSD server hosting right from the get-go. The host optimizes both software and hardware with speed in mind. The result is powerful machines that can get to 20x faster than the regular web server.

Now available on all plans.

Anytime Moneyback Guarantee

One of the best things about A2? It’s completely risk-free.

As with many other hosts, you can cancel and get your money back within the first 30 days of your hosting venture. But A2 ups the ante and actually gives you the option to cancel anytime and get a prorated refund of the unused time.

A2 Hosting’s shared plans come at reasonable prices, starting at $2.96/mo with the introductory discount. Renewal rates go up to $7.99/mo for the Lite plan.

A2 Hosting Support

A2 Hosting offers customer support via multiple channels. Users with sales questions can contact the 24/7 toll-free line or live chat. The ticketing is most useful for tech assistance.

The company follows up on its “green” promises in this aspect of its business as well. Most of the operators work from home, and those who visit the offices often telecommute.

Way to reduce the carbon footprint!

I tested the chat a couple of times, and my experience was adequate, without being brilliant. A2 is one of those all-round good SSD companies, doing just enough to help you out.

I am yet to test them in times of real trouble, but so far, it’s all been dandy.

A2 Hosting User Reviews

  • Trustpilot score — 81% excellent ratings (833 reviews)
  • WebHostingGeeks score — 4.61/5 (239 reviews)
  • WhoIsHostingThis score — 4.5/5 (257 reviews)

The A2 Hosting online reviews are somewhat conflicting.

Depending on where you’re checking, you can get the impression that the company is either spectacular or terrible.

But which problems seem to pop up most often?

Windows users, for example, seem to suffer frequently from the unfitting environment, and support doesn’t sound to be of much help.

That’s another thing to keep in mind — just because your sales assistance was excellent, that’s not a guarantee the techs are up to par.

Our Verdict

A2 Hosting is a premium SSD hosting provider with a solution for every need. A company with a strong focus on speed, A2 is a preferred choice for blogs, personal projects, and portfolio websites. WordPress users can enjoy advanced options, such as site staging, server-side caching, and more.

For the last 11 years, GreenGeeks has been fighting for its place in the hosting elite.

The internet is one of the world’s largest polluters, and GG tries to control its impact as much as possible. Giving back 300% of its power consumption in the form of clean, renewable energy, you will struggle to find a greener provider.

The numbers so far are impressive — GreenGeeks flaunts 40,000+ users, 500,000+ websites, and 615,000Kwh energy replaced yearly.

GreenGeeks Features

All three SSD shared hosting packages (Lite, Pro, and Premium) come with unlimited space, monthly traffic, and free domain registration for the first year.

GreenGeeks supercharges its plans with extras divided into six categories:

  • The Essentials — cPanel features, email services, drag-and-drop site builder
  • Performance — scalable resources, CDN, RAID-10 storage arrays
  • Ecommerce Capabilities — shopping cart installation
  • Security & Reliability — proactive monitoring, automatic app updates, nightly data backups
  • Developer Friendly — SSH and FTP access, WP-CLI, Perl and Python support
  • Technical Support — 24/7 via chat, phone, tickets

Digging deeper, all packages contain a few exclusive extras.

Wildcard SSL

The standard SSL package gives your domain an extra layer of protection against hackers. But what if you need to secure your subdomains as well?

GreenGeeks is one of the few SSD web hosting providers that offer wildcard SSL certificates to all its clients, ensuring top-level protection over visitor data.

PowerCacher Tool

Better site performance is a primary concern for hosting providers and clients alike. That’s why GreenGeeks came up with the PowerCacher – a proprietary tool that helps optimize your traffic and reduce your page load times

The platform is available on all packages and server offerings.

The Lite plans start at $2.95/mo if prepaid for three years in advance.

Renewal prices are a little steeper compared to the competition, raising the monthly rates for shared SSD Linux hosting to $9.95/mo.

GreenGeeks Support

Many existing GreenGeeks clients seem to be delighted with the level of support they’re getting.

Time to get some first-hand experience.

My chat operator was very quick to connect and always responded within a minute. I threw a couple of curveballs at him, but he knew his stuff.

All would be perfect if the operator didn’t try to slip in a few templated sales pitches a bit too early in the conversation.

But that’s just me being nitpicky.

GreenGeeks User Reviews

  • Trustpilot score — 90% excellent ratings (242 reviews)
  • WebHostingGeeks score — 4.18/5 (606 reviews)
  • WhoIsHostingThis score — 4.5/5 (351 reviews)

The positive reviews far outweigh the negative ones when it comes to evaluating the GreenGeeks hosting services. Clients seem very content with the SSD technology, their website performance, and the level of support assistance.

And we’re not just talking about newbies that need help with their first website.

Quite a few of the happy campers claim they have more intricate projects, and yet GreenGeeks still found a way to accommodate them.

Most negative reviews were either outdated or controversial. The host does not hide its renewal or cancellation policies, although some sections in the Terms of Service can use some re-wording.

Our Verdict

All about preserving the environment, GreenGeeks is one host that tries to make a difference. The company offers a variety of shared SSD hosting deals that cover the needs of big and small businesses alike. Helpful support operators with a friendly attitude.

For this one, we are taking a trip to the Great White North.

HostPapa entered the industry in 2006, but founder Jamie Opalchuk had some experience with dedicated and hosted applications long before that.

Today, HostPapa is responsible for the hosting services of over 200,000 websites around the world.

As with many other Canadian tech companies, this provider is all about green initiatives and giving back to Mother Nature.

HostPapa Features

The three HostPapa plans are pretty robust when it comes to server resources.

The Starter SSD hosting plan has a storage limit, but you can still utilize up to 100 GB — way more than what a couple of websites can consume.

In terms of features included, you are all covered with the essentials — a generic website builder, Cloudflare CDN, a Let’s Encrypt SSL. You can also register a new domain name for free in case you don’t already have one.

Free Domain and Site Transfer

Clients often stay with the same provider for years, even when they’re not entirely happy with the service. One of the reasons is that moving away is often time-consuming and not easy for a hosting beginner.

HostPapa makes switching as seamless as possible with a wonderful onboarding bundle – free domain and data transfer. No needless tasks for you, no downtimes, or service interruptions.

One-on-one Training Sessions

Getting some expert assistance is great, but having a dedicated session will ensure the operator focuses on your case and needs alone.

HostPapa is one of the best SSD companies in that aspect, letting you schedule a one-on-one conversation with a member of its support team easily. This way, you can get tailored assistance and ask everything regarding site performance, security, and possible optimizations.

Now might be the right time to choose HostPapa.

The running promos for new clients make the mid-level plan as affordable as the Starter one, so you can secure an unlimited-everything package for as low as $3.95/mo.

HostPapa Support

I really like the structure of HostPapa’s Contact page on the company website. There are drop-down menus for communication methods, so reaching an assistant is as easy as pie.

The two times I tried the live chat, my experiences were ambivalent.

Both operators were polite and reasonably fast. However, one was much more eager to help, while the other seemed to be just pushing for the sale.

I didn’t get into too many technicalities, but their general knowledge was satisfactory.

Should be more than enough for SSD hosting clients with little experience or low demands.

HostPapa User Reviews

  • Trustpilot score — 75% excellent ratings (228 reviews)
  • WebHostingGeeks score — 3.98/5 (708 reviews)
  • WhoIsHostingThis score — 4/5 (396 reviews)

Looking around, HostPapa seems to be getting mostly positive reactions from clients. Users are praising website speed as well as how easy it is to operate the backend.

Support is a controversial topic, though.

Opinions vary a lot, which only reaffirms my own impressions — it really matters which operator the chat roulette will pick for you.

To its credit, HostPapa makes an effort to be present in social media and review websites, so no negative experiences are left untreated.

Plus, the latest negative reviews date over a year back, so there appears to have been a change for the better.

Our Verdict

Hosting services are a tight market with lots of competitors. In light of that, HostPapa found its cozy place. It’s one of those SSD companies that keeps its clients at a reasonable number, so each user can get the special treatment they deserve. More than suitable for hobby projects, personal websites, and SMBs.

Let’s go back in time, way back to the very dawn of hosting.

The day is April 10, 1996.

The place — Claremont, California.

Four undergrads from Harvey Mudd College founded a small web company called New Dream Networks LLC.

Today, you might know it by the name of DreamHost.

DreamHost is one of the most distinguished names in hosting — 400,000+ clients, 1,500,000+ websites, and over 250 employees responsible for their well-being.

So what keeps DH thriving for so many years?

DreamHost Features

One thing you need to know about DreamHost is the company is well-versed with technology.

DH has spun quite a few services and businesses on the side, complementing its main offerings.

As an SSD web hosting client, though, you only have two choices — Starter and Unlimited.

The distinction is apparent. One lets you host a single website with no emails, while the other is unlimited-everything.

Feature-wise, both shared packages look good, with the free domain, SSL certificate, and all.

But there are other head-turners.

Custom Control Panel

DH sets you up with your very own control panel for hosting management and website operations. It’s a custom-built solution that allows you to easily deal with your files, databases, email accounts, and domain names.

The best thing is DreamPanel runs on separate servers and doesn’t take any system resources to operate.

Optimized for WordPress

Along with SiteGround, DreamHost is one of the active contributors to the WordPress project. You can expect a full bundle full of goods – preinstalled software, a WP-based site builder, free automated migrations.

Starting off with the most popular CMS has never been easier.

All in all, there are better-packed accounts out there. But you can excuse DH, as it focuses much more on cloud and VPS SSD hosting rather than shared solutions.

DreamHost Support

Customer care with DreamHost is a bit iffy for me.

Everywhere on the website, you can read about this fantastic 24/7 support that is always there for you and so on and so forth. But then you start digging some more and read the fine print you’ll see:

  • Sales chat is only available Mon-Fri, 8 am — 4 pm PST.
  • Tech support chat works Mon-Sun, 5:30 am — 9:30 pm PST.
  • The phone line is for callbacks. You get one callback per month.
  • Need more callbacks? You better get your wallet out.
  • Emails and ticketing are the only things supposedly 24/7 but with prolonged response times.

In light of that, I’d say that DreamHost definitely has room for improvement to make its clients feel safer and well taken care of at all times.

DreamHost User Reviews

  • Trustpilot score — 72% excellent ratings (927 reviews)
  • WebHostingGeeks score — 3.70/5 (162 reviews)
  • WhoIsHostingThis score — 4/5 (275 reviews)

The lack of 24/7 assistance and focus on other services certainly takes its toll according to DreamHost’s SSD hosting reviews.

There are all kinds of horror stories going around — from lack of assistance and missing backups to server downtimes — it seems DH has some improving to do.

The funny thing is, while the company pops up here and there to address some of the negative reviews, it fails in doing that as well.

We’ve previously recognized DreamHost as one of the top providers of Cloud solutions and VPS servers, but proper client support has always been the one thing missing.

Think about it, DreamHost.

Our Verdict

DreamHost will not wow you with a lot of choices and options, but it ensures you can make great use of what you have. This fast SSD hosting provider held high performance scores, especially impressive under stress. Recommended for clients that don’t need a lot of extra support.

KnownHost is one of those privately-held providers that managed to withstand the hosting winds of change.

The company first saw the light of day in 2006 and now offers a wide variety of services:

  • Shared cloud hosting
  • WordPress hosting
  • Cloud VPS
  • Dedicated servers
  • Reseller hosting
  • Domain registration
  • SSL certificates

KnownHost powers its solutions with technologies like KVM, OpenVZ, OpenStack, and Ceph.

The company serves clients from over 150 countries from its two cutting-edge offices in Pennsylvania and Alabama.

KnownHost Features

Let’s see what kind of packages KnownHost can offer.

Your first question should be — how many websites do I plan to have?

You have your first deciding factor right there.

As you can see, the Basic plan lets you host one domain, the Standard one increases that to five, and all bets are off with the Professional deal.

The same logic applies to the SSD space allocation, with 5GB, 20GB, and Unlimited accordingly.

The isolated account setup is a particular highlight. No longer will your project suffer from bad neighbors and their poor security.

What else can you find under KnownHost’s hood?

LiteSpeed Servers

According to SSD benchmark tests, LiteSpeed servers are 8-10 times faster than Apache when serving static content. Not only that, but it caches pages like no other, significantly reducing the load on your hardware.

LiteSpeed is available on all KnownHost shared plans.

Brute Force Protection

Brute force attacks are one of the common methods employed by hackers to bypass the security of your server. It blasts your machine with password guesses at breakneck speeds with the hope of eventually getting it right.

KnownHost packages come with state-of-the-art brute force protection that allows you to limit failed login attempts, add captcha, and more.

KH’s SSD web hosting plans start at $3.47/mo with the introductory discount. You can play around with a fully-featured account and if you don’t like it — the 30-day money-back guarantee will make the whole experience risk-free.

KnownHost Support

I hadn’t tested the KnownHost support team before (not in the last couple of years at least), so I was ready for anything.

Boy, was I pleasantly surprised!

The sales operators were super-friendly, very responsive, and able to explain things in both tech and non-tech lingo. At no point did they feel pushy or confused with my questions.

The only downside is those gems of assistants aren’t there round-the-clock for you.

Sales and Billing office hours are 7:00 am to 7:00 pm CST, the same applies to the live chat operating hours. The only way to reach for tech support 24/7 is via a ticket.

KnownHost User Reviews

  • Trustpilot score — 76% excellent ratings (17 reviews)
  • WebHostingGeeks score — 4.50/5 (2 reviews)
  • WhoIsHostingThis score — 4.5/5 (25 reviews)

The online SSD reviews about KnownHost are pretty scarce.

Even major review aggregator sites don’t have more than a few.

That can be a sign the host either:

a/ is very low on clients

b/ is doing something right

I believe it’s a case of the latter, as the most recent negative reviews date back to 2017.

Our Verdict

KnownHost is a versatile provider that ensures a fast and safe environment for every website. One of the best-rated SSD companies in terms of customer assistance. The host prices its shared packages reasonably, especially considering their features and add-ons.

Our next contender is a US-based host with a strong focus on the local audience.

Web Hosting Hub first started accommodating websites in 2010. It now has over 40,000 of them in two green-friendly data centers in Virginia Beach and Los Angeles.

Online information about WHH is somewhat limited, and the company doesn’t do much to lift the curtains either.

Web Hosting Hub Features

Unlike many direct competitors, Web Hosting Hub keeps its offerings down to shared and WordPress hosting. You can hire the company for some design requests as well.

That’s pretty much it.

No VPS, no cloud, no dedicated servers. Zilch. Nada.

You can forget about any forms of scalability or upgrades.

The three shared packages are not that rich when it comes to features — their main difference is resource allocation. The good thing with the higher-tiered plans is you can go wild with the CPU and RAM, which is especially beneficial for websites with sudden traffic spikes.

Only a couple of things are worth noting:

Optimized for Ecommerce

You can set up an online shop and sell your products on any of the Web Hosting Hub’s SSD hosting deals. The one-click autoinstaller gives you access to most of the popular shopping cart software – OpenCart, Magento, PrestaShop, you name it.

Additionally, all shopping websites can benefit from multi-SSL support and advanced firewall protection.

Free Private SSL

Speaking of security certificates, they are not there for your own safety alone. SSLs play a crucial role in inspiring trust with your visitors, especially if you are building an ecommerce project.

The security socket layer certificate encrypts the information that passes through your website, including delicate personal or login data. SSL certificates are essential nowadays, so hosts like Web Hosting Hub try to react accordingly.

Starting from $4.99/mo and renewed at $8.99/mo, WHH is far from being the best affordable SSD host out there.

Web Hosting Hub Support

Web Hosting Hub gives its clients a helping hand via chat, phone, and email. Skype is a neat addition as an alternative communication channel.

That being said, the chat operators can use some extra training.

The ones I spoke with seemed very keen on helping me sign up even before addressing half of my sales questions. At the end of our chat, we agreed the guy would send me a custom link with a better discount than I can get on the website.

Sounds great, right?

As it turned out, not only did the link carry the same price rate as advertised, but the guy slipped in some extra paid service, probably hoping I wouldn’t notice.

Not exactly the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Web Hosting Hub User Reviews

  • Trustpilot score — 33% excellent ratings (21 reviews)
  • WebHostingGeeks score — 4.50/5 (360 reviews)
  • WhoIsHostingThis score — 4.5/5 (159 reviews)

Reviewers in TrustPilot, the most prominent review aggregator, don’t seem very fond of Web Hosting Hub and its SSD deals.

And that’s putting it mildly.

They reveal pressing support problems, hidden limitations, and shady policies. The big issue is far too many people report such cases far too often for this to be considered a focused effort to tarnish WHH’s reputation.

Our Verdict

For a company that only offers one type of hosting, Web Hosting Hub can surely have a better go at it. Its hardware setup produces excellent speeds, but the host should rethink its SSD prices and level of assistance. Worth checking for first-time web users, as they can hire an in-house designer and get a website up and running with zero effort.

MilesWeb originally started in 2012 as a provider of budgeted hosting solutions for clients from India and the region.

The ever-rising number of internet users in the last decade helped the company expand beyond the local market and expand its services worldwide.

MilesWeb hosts over 10,000 clients from its eight global offices and six server locations. You can pick between:

  • the US
  • the UK
  • Canada
  • India
  • Singapore
  • Australia

The host supports both Linux and Windows-based web projects.

MilesWeb Features

MilesWeb calls its three shared plans Tyro, Swift, and Turbo.

Now, let’s first address the elephant in the room.

Yes, the introductory prices start from $0.90/mo.

Yes, even the renewals are as cheap as they come, at $1.80/mo.

Yes, that free domain on the Swift and Turbo plans makes the deal even sweeter.

Yes, yes, yes…

But once the euphoria is over, reality sets in.

The packages are quite bare-boned and don’t offer much once your business starts growing.

Take the most recommended plan, for example. The Swift deal lets you host one domain only, giving you a free SSL and Cloudflare CDN along with it. Sure, you have unlimited storage/traffic and amazingly low SSD prices, but there’s not much point to that when you can only use them for a single project.

What else?

SSH Access

Root SSH access is typically an extra that comes with VPS servers. Experienced users can utilize the command interface to operate their account easily, set restrictions and user rights, even install your software.

MilesWeb readily offers SSH access to shared clients as well. As great as this is for the users who want more control, this opens a gateway for many possible problems if you don’t know what you’re doing.

Malware Scanner

Hosting security is a prime concern for hosting providers, and MilesWeb makes no difference.

The US provider ensures your SSD server hosting gets state-of-the-art security via an advanced malware scanner. The tool utilizes known databases to detect and isolate harmful attacks before they even reach the web server. It efficiently tackles over 99% of all known spam and viruses, alerting you in cases of malicious activity.

Overall, nothing special, but it has enough to support a personal website or a small business project.

MilesWeb Support

MilesWeb advertises 24/7 sales support via live chat, phone, tickets, and email. Technical and billing help is also possible in the online messenger, which is a particularly neat addition.

Let’s give it a go then.

The first time I tried the chat, my experience was rather pleasing. Not the fastest operators, but I got my answers eventually.

The second try was not so praiseworthy.

I entered the chat with the simplest of questions — where are your data centers? I was in a hurry, so I hoped for a clear-cut answer…

Instead, I got something like a police investigation — pushing for my personal details and lots of irrelevant questions. Once I left the chat (or so I thought), I kept getting replies containing price quotes in rupees.

As it turns out, the operator mixed the chats, which made an even bigger mess of the whole thing.

Definitely test the sales operators on your own before jumping into an SSD hosting deal with MilesWeb.

MilesWeb might be great for low-demand clients, but online reviews suggest that serious projects might suffer with this host.

The complaints vary greatly — from slow servers to poor support and shady cancellation policies.

Even when the company tries to defend itself online, it does it in a rather unprofessional manner.

A good example is the recent increase in cPanel licensing fees. All hosting providers were affected, and most quickly managed to find a solution without changing what the end client pays.

In contrast, MilesWeb did a 33% price hike, explaining its license costs as a provider had risen by 250%

You don’t need a college degree in math to see those numbers don’t add up.

Our Verdict

Many Indian entrepreneurs trust and use MilesWeb’s SSD hosting solutions. In fact, any business in need of a simple online presence that costs next-to-nothing can enjoy the service. This is a double-edged sword, as the mouthwatering price tags take their toll on the resource allocation and level of support.

Two tech-savvy friends with a common goal

A fancy new domain name

A virtual private server

This is pretty much how Interserver came to be.

Founders Mike Lavrik and John Quaglieri shared the dream of offering high-end hosting services at an affordable price when they launched the company in 1999.

Two decades later, they say the mission hasn’t changed one bit.

InterServer Features

I like what I see when looking at the Interserver shared plan. Yes, I say plan, singular.

The only shared hosting package includes a global CDN, inter-proxy caching, and WordPress auto-updates.

My SSD speed comparison was favorable for Interserver, scoring the blazing-fast 0.29s TTFB and 0.88s full load times.

There are a few proprietary tools available as part of the package.

InterShield Security

InterServer is one of those hosts that prefer to optimize server security in-house. The InterShield tool is a robust platform that blocks web attacks, scans for viruses, and tackles malware.

This unique solution relies on advanced machine learning algorithms that allow the system to learn from itself and further improve

InterProxy Content Caching

The proprietary InterProxy tool utilizes the Cloudflare CDN to help you deliver content at unprecedented speeds. As our SSD benchmark tests confirmed, InterServer is one of the fastest hosts in terms of time-to-first-byte (TTFB).

InterProxy combines caching on several different levels:

  • Raid level — LSI MegaRaid SSD caching
  • Hardware level — small files in RAM storage
  • Software level — dynamic content caching
  • Packet level — reduced compression times

The standard shared account comes at $5.00/mo, but that’s only if you pay month-by-month. Annual and bi/triennial payments are subject to further discounts.

Interserver is also one of the few hosts that offer a price lock guarantee, letting you secure a great rate and plan your budget more carefully.

InterServer Support

I have a background in hosting customer care, so I’ve seen my fair share of great and poor support operators.

So It was really unusual I could still find something to shock me.

Not only did the company rep pay no attention to my queries and just kept pushing links, but he was rather arrogant when I pointed out his oversight.

Talking back to the client is one of the big no-nos for any customer service assistant in any field.

Hopefully, the technical support (via tickets) and billing team (via email) deal with people professionally.

InterServer User Reviews

  • Trustpilot score — 60% excellent ratings (15 reviews)
  • WebHostingGeeks score — 3.82/5 (11 reviews)
  • WhoIsHostingThis score — 4.5/5 (210 reviews)

Client testimonials about Interserver tend to confirm my bad impressions. Far too many people report bad service and shady dealings to be all wrong.

At the same time, there are a lot of positive articles and reviews about the host. This leads me to believe it employs affiliate commissions to improve its reputation as a top provider of SSD hosting for WordPress.

Our Verdict

If you operate on the US market, Interserver is one of those SSD providers that might be worth a look. Set up for enhanced speed and security, your project can achieve optimal performance at a reasonable price. The quality of support assistance is questionable, so I wouldn’t recommend it to the less-experienced.

ChemiCloud is a relatively new name in the hosting industry. The provided popped up on the radar in 2016 and has remained privately-owned to this day.

ChemiCloud supports all types of hosting services – from shared, to VPS, dedicated, and reseller. There are WordPress-optimized packages for fans of the most popular CMS.

CC spans across eight locations on four continents – San Francisco, New York, London, Amsterdam, Bucharest, Bangalore, Singapore, and Sydney.

ChemiCloud Features

ChemiCloud might predominantly focus on cloud VPS services, but that doesn’t mean the shared solutions are not competitive as well.

The Delaware-based provider offers three beefed-up SSD deals that come with a minimum of 15 GB space and no caps on monthly bandwidth.

Sounds good for starters, but what else is there?

Free Domain Name for Life

You can’t build a business without a domain name, not if you want it to be publicly available at least. Naturally, many hosting providers include free domain registration for the first year as part of their shared offerings.

ChemiCloud goes one step beyond and offers a no-cost site name for as long as you remain with the host. The regular domain price might just be around $10-$15/year, but that’s savings you can invest in other ways to boost your business.

Free Website Transfer

Migrating your data to another host can be tedious, and all the hassle involved make clients reluctant to switch providers.

ChemiCloud is ready to assist with your website transfer and move everything to its SSD servers without any service interruptions.

ChemiCloud’s packages are all reasonably-priced, with a great 65% discount for new customers. You can build a new website for as low as $2.76/mo, which transforms to $7.90/mo come renewal.

ChemiCloud Support

ChemiCloud keeps a relatively small customer base, which allows the host to dedicate more attention to each client.

The company Contact page lets you easily reach support operators via live chat, ticketing, and email. A phone number is also available if that’s your cup of tea.

I tested the assistance via the live messenger, and I was pleasantly surprised by the friendly attitude and in-depth replies. The operators always took their time to understand my case first before trying to propose suitable solutions.

I sent out a few tickets as well, and the tech team managed to impress me every single time.

ChemiCloud User Reviews

  • Trustpilot score — 98% excellent ratings (106 reviews)
  • HostAdvice score — 9.9 / 10 (423 reviews)
  • HostSearch score — 5 / 5 (97 reviews)

ChemiCloud is, hands-down, the best-rated SSD provider on this list. I struggled to find a single horror review about the host – it seems that clients are all in awe with the personal approach to things.

“Best support team around”

“Finally found a good home for my websites”

“Excellent hosting service provider”

The praises say it all.

The one time there was a client who did not agree with the pricing policy phrasing, ChemiCloud took the feedback to heart and made changes accordingly.

Our Verdict

ChemiCloud is a fresh new player in the hosting game that has already made its mark as a fast host with first-class support. The provider offers some cost-effective solutions that can house both personal projects and growing businesses.

When you promote a customer-first approach to your services, results are soon to follow.

Hostwinds has been in business since 2010. For the last decade, the provider has been working hard to make a name of itself with state-of-the-art hardware and generous service guarantees.

Hostwinds operates from three tier-4 data center facilities in Seattle (US), Dallas (US), and Amsterdam (NL).

Hostwinds Features

For a company of its scale, Hostwinds offers quite robust and feature-packed SSD shared hosting deals. We are talking about perks like SSL certificates, dedicated IP, and free data migrations.

Unlike other hosts in the niche, HW lets you utilize unmetered space and bandwidth on each of its packages. The only difference is the number of websites you can host – one on the Basic, four on the Advanced, and unlimited on the Business plan.

But that doesn’t tell you the whole story.

Weebly Site Builder

Weebly is one of the most popular website building solutions out there, trusted by millions of clients worldwide. It offers an easy entry into web development and design with no prior knowledge or skills needed.

Hostwinds partners up with Weebly to give you all the advantages of the drag-and-drop builder as part of its hosting. If you just need a simple page to quickly put online – that’s one very practical solution for you.

Daily Backups

You would think that daily backups are one of the first things hosts throw in their SSD web hosting deals, but in reality, this feature is often overlooked.

Hostwinds offers this as an extra service.

For just $3/mo and $0.03/GB storage, you can guarantee your website will always have a working copy in case things go sideways. You have full control over what’s stored so you won’t be overpaying for backup copies you don’t really need.

The actual account prices start from $3.29/mo if you’re a first-time customer. Renewing clients can expect rates from $8.99/mo upward.

Hostwinds Support

Hostwinds is one of those SSD companies that makes its support operators easily accessible. Assistance is 24/7 available, and you can choose a communication channel that fits you best – live chat, phone, email, or self-helpers. Tech support is only reachable via an internal ticketing portal

The messenger popup often prompts you to reach out to the sales operators so you can get all your questions answered. That’s exactly what I got from my chat conversations.

The operator always connected within a minute and answered swiftly, combining mission-specific info with helpful links. The reps weren’t afraid to get into some basic technical queries as well, proving their versatility and expertise.

Hostwinds User Reviews

  • Trustpilot score — 66% excellent ratings (152 reviews)
  • WebHostingGeeks score — 4.64 / 5 (249 reviews)
  • WhoIsHostingThis score — 3 / 5 (28 reviews)

Clients are on the fence when it comes to reviewing Hostiwind’s services. Some aggregator websites paint a perfect picture for the host, praising both the server performance and the level of support.

Other reviews are not so flattering.

More than a few clients are reporting problems with double billing and slow refunds, issues that certainly shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Our Verdict

Hostwinds is a noteworthy mention if you’re looking for a fast SSD hosting with great uptime and enough extra assistance. The provider puts a lot of focus on server performance, which is why the client accounts aren’t very feature-packed.

Good for smaller projects or low-demanding business pages.

Media Temple was one of the early web hosting adopters, starting operations in 1998. The company enjoyed stable growth, both in the number of clients and portfolio of services.

This success did not go unnoticed, and in 2013 industry giant GoDaddy acquired Media Temple for an undisclosed sum.

Still, the new parent allowed MT to remain largely independent, so there is a notable difference between the two hosts.

Media Temple Features

A single glance is all it takes to see Media Temple is more than your average shared SSD hosting provider.

MT is best-suited for enterprises and businesses that run many online projects at once. While the average host optimizes their entry-level plan for one website, Media Temple allows you to run up to 100 all at once.

This same plan comes with 20 GB SSD space, 1 TB bandwidth, and 1,000 email boxes.

The Pro and Elite packages are even more robust and add extra bonuses like automated malware detection and removal. Those two pack a couple more exciting feats:

Web Application Firewall (WAF)

WAF stands for web application firewall and acts as a protective wall in front of your website or app. It’s a wonderful security solution as it monitors, filters, and effectively blocks the HTTP traffic that travels to and from your website.

Global CDN

Media Temple partners up with online security giants Sucuri to offer clients more ways to optimize their content delivery. We are talking about a vast network of interconnected servers that save cached copies of important site data, so it can speed up load times and reduce the load on the physical machine.

As I mentioned, Media Temple targets a more sophisticated crowd. You can easily tell that by their pricing. Starting from $20/mo, it’s far from the most affordable SSD hosting providers in the niche.

Media Temple Support

MT certainly doesn’t hold off when it comes to assisting its customers. The company operators are 24/7 reachable via live chat, phone, ticketing, you can even hit them up on Twitter. The rich knowledge base and server status check are just the cherries on top.

Now, you might have heard many horror stories about the customer service of Media Temple’s parent, GoDaddy.

Luckily, MT managed to keep its independence, and that’s more than evident. The operators proved well-versed in hosting topics and replied promptly, both through the chat and the ticketing portal.

It may not be the most impressive experience compared to the industry leaders, but Media Temple is definitely getting there.

Media Temple User Reviews

  • Trustpilot score — 0% excellent ratings (6 reviews)
  • WebHostingGeeks score — 4.53 / 5 (29 reviews)
  • WhoIsHostingThis score — 4.5 / 5 (68 reviews)

Unfortunately, online client testimonials about Media Temple are pretty scarce. But the bigger problem is that most reviews are years old, so even those wouldn’t be an objective indicator.

Doesn’t matter if you’re looking for virtual servers or SSD reseller hosting information – testing for yourself will give you the most accurate results.

Our Verdict

Media Temple is a reliable SSD provider with long experience in the hosting industry. MT clients can enjoy speed-optimized servers and have enough ways to reach support when needed.

Media Temple’s solutions are best suited for web developers and designers with a lot of small clients.

You might have heard the NameCheap name if you were ever in the business of purchasing domain names. The provider has been in the web business since 2000 and rose to become one of the biggest registrars in the world. Today, over 10 million domain names reside on NameCheap’s servers.

NC has far outgrown the simple domain offerings and now offers a one-stop-shop service – shared hosting, virtual servers, reseller services, even a VPN.

We are talking about a versatile SSD company with a massive scale of operations.

NameCheap Features

In terms of shared hosting, there are three packages to choose from – Stellar, Stellar Plus, and Stellar Business

The deals start from 20 GB storage, but I found something else peculiar. The second-tier deal ups your allocated space to unlimited, but the highest-tier SSD deals are limited again – only 50 GB SSD are available at your disposal.

What else can you enjoy as a NameCheap customer?

Drag-and-drop Site Builder

A lot of clients don’t need super fancy websites that pack tons of functionalities. Beginners often look for solutions that are intuitive, easy to use, and let you become a developer with zero previous knowledge.

NameCheap has the needs of the average user in mind, including a user-friendly drag-and-drop builder for easy site publishing. Pick a theme, fill in your content, and customize your UX – all a few clicks away.

Domain Privacy Protection

Typically, when you register a new domain name, your registrar data is publicly available and easily reachable with a simple whois search. We are talking about names, email, address, phone, everything you fill during the signup process.

Some people prefer to hide this personal information and NameCheap throws in some free domain privacy protection to make them feel more protected.

All things considered, NameCheap might not be the most feature-packed SSD company out there, but it sure compensates with prices.

New clients can start building a website for as low as $1.44/mo. Even the Business package is cheap enough to fit any budget – only $4.44/mo. Sure, those are all introductory prices with a 50% discount, but even come renewal, the deals are more affordable than the majority out there.

NameCheap Support

NameCheap has millions of clients worldwide, which often takes a toll on the support of such large-scale companies.

Unfortunately, my NameCheap tests confirmed my fears. The operators were often clueless and resorted to templated responses instead of actually understanding the issue at hand.

To be fair, the support is indeed 24/7 available as confirmed by my tests at different times of day.

NameCheap gives you more than one way to request assistance – you have a live chat, ticketing portal, email contacts, and an extensive knowledge base.

NameCheap User Reviews

  • Trustpilot score — 34% excellent ratings (561 reviews)
  • WebHostingGeeks score — 3.3 / 5 (110 reviews)
  • WhoIsHostingThis score — 5.6 / 10 (93 reviews)

Words around the internet don’t show NameCheap in a very flattering light. In fact, with only 34% positive ratings in Trustpilot, the provider is one of the least popular hosts in our SSD comparison.

There are bad reports across the whole board – the account limits, server performance, billing issues.

But one problem seems to pop up more frequently than others. NameCheap has some serious work to do in the customer support department as most clients find it inefficient at best.

All in all, NC’s reputation is far from perfect, so you better take advantage of the free trial before you make a final decision.

Our Verdict

NameCheap is a leading domain registrar, but its SSD hosting services could use some improvement. The packages are a bit bare-boned, and the servers are handling too many clients at once.

Still, it’s a good cheap SSD deal, and even renewal rates are more than affordable for every pocket.

The Differences Between SSD and HDD Storage

For years we have kept our data on drives made up of mechanical platters and spinning motors. While reliable to this day, this storing method had to evolve, just like all the computer tech around it.

Enter solid-state drives.

The next-gen technology quickly proved superior in many aspects. The benchmark tests made that abundantly clear.

Best SSD Hosting - SSD vs HDD benchmarks

Let’s break the information down to the most essential categories:

  • Speed

Fast page load times are your number one priority as a site owner. Your visitors demand lightning-fast speeds, and so should you.

Solid-state drives far outmatch their mechanical predecessors. Not only is there virtually no connection time, but the disk is much faster overall as well. Think of 2000%+ improvement in Input/output and 500%+ in file opening speeds.

  • Durability

The lack of mechanical parts and spinning ventilators make SSDs significantly harder to break. Solid-state drives are also shock-resistant and practically noiseless.

You know how, when you put a magnet near your computer, the monitor starts flickering?

Well, imagine a powerful enough magnet near your hard drive. It probably won’t directly erase your data, but it can cause the disk to fail, which amounts to the same thing.

SSDs are impervious to magnetism, and that’s just another plus in their book.

  • Reliability

Chances are, once in a blue moon, your HDD will fail. It happens, it’s a mechanical device after all.

But what if you can mitigate that risk?

The best SSDs reduce the disk failure rate from 3-4% to less than 0.5%. That makes your solid-state drive about seven times more reliable than the average HDD.

Your website will certainly enjoy that.

  • Energy expense

It’s 2020, and every industry has to give its fair share back to the environment it drains so mercilessly. Every little effort counts, and you might be surprised that even hard drives can make a difference.

A single HDD consumes around 6-15 watts of energy.

The SSD brings those numbers down to 2-5 watts (with no heat emissions).

On a larger scale, as is the case with SSD hosting servers, we are talking about significant cuts in the cooling and maintenance bills.

The host is happy, the client is happy, Mother Nature is happy.

Everybody wins.

  • CPU Power consumed

Your website most likely employs a database (or a few) to store its information. Every time this information is “requested,” the DB runs queries back and forth with the webserver, which drains  CPU power.

Solid-state drives have an answer for that as well.

The average SSD consumes about 1% of processing power, freeing up 6% more compared to its HDD analog.

Or in simpler terms — more free CPU on your server leaves more resources for your website to utilize.

Conclusion

Well, then.

It turns out there are plenty of worthy SSD web hosting companies ready to accommodate your online venture. Some excel in feature offerings while others are unmatchable when it comes to price.

One thing they all have in common — they are supercharged with a solid-state drive.

So you can leave your hardware concerns aside and focus on the task at hand — optimizing your website.

Common Questions about SSD Hosting

Why do people prefer SSDs for web servers?

Server machines benefit greatly from the adoption of solid-state drives. Not only is the technology faster than the traditional HDD, but it also consumes less power, active or not.

The only reasons why some servers still employ mechanical hard drives are the enhanced capacity and lower cost.

But as technology evolves in leaps and bounds, that might no longer be the case soon.

What are the alternatives to SSDs?

The two possible choices besides a solid-state drive are HDDs and SSHDs.

We’ve already covered most of the essentials about hard drives — they are slower, less durable, and consume more power. Still, they are a viable choice for hosting providers, as you can store a lot more data at a significantly lower cost.

SSHDs try to get the best of both worlds. They consist of a large-capacity mechanical disk with a small SSD core for enhanced speed and performance. While suitable for laptops and desktop computers, it’s not so efficient when it comes to web servers.

The solid-state core is not that big and only helps if you are running the same bunch of processes over and over again.

Do I have to know how to program to use an SSD?

Your storage drive is a piece of hardware, so there is absolutely no coding knowledge needed to take advantage of it. Whether you are trying to apply SSD on your web server or your home laptop — it’s just a matter of connecting it properly.

Just like you don’t have to be a mechanic to drive a car.

Can I use the SSD on a shared hosting plan?

As we are talking about a storage method, nothing is stopping you from hooking up an SSD to any kind of server.

In fact, that’s what a lot of providers are doing right now.

Faster and more durable servers equal perfectly running websites.

Well-performing websites equal happy customers.

Happy customers equal more sales.

The math checks out for everyone.

That’s why SSD hosting is such a hot commodity right now.
